Area residents and business owners now have a single destination to go for all things development in Guadalupe County.

The county recently opened its $7 million, 17,000 square-foot development center that houses workers from departments including engineering, road and bridge and more, Guadalupe County Engineer Clay Forister said.

“We will now have a one-stop shop to serve our citizens’ permitting, development, and service request needs by having staff from multiple departments under one roof,” he said. “Being based in one location strengthens our capacity to work together internally to more efficiently deliver significant county projects while also enhancing our customer service.”

The new building is located at 310 I-10 West in Seguin. Guadalupe County Commissioners Court members agreed the building was needed and had demolition of a building at the same site finished in November 2022, Public Information Officer Carmen Davila said.

“That old building that existed in the place where the development center is now used to be the road and bridge administration building,” she said. “They moved those work spaces into the road and bridge building that was right behind it. They made due while this building was getting created.”

Construction of the new building cost $7 million and ended on time around the second week of September and on budget, Davila sad.

Employees working in the building moved in the week of Sept. 18 and settled in for a soft opening Sept. 25, she said.

It gives residents and businesses a place for integrated services from engineering and environmental expertise to road and bridge management, Davila said.

“The new development center is centrally located in Guadalupe County and is well suited to support professional services in terms of growth and safety,” Precinct No. 2 Commissioner Drew Engelke said. “Engineers and environmental health staff will now all reside in the same building. We were using offices at the old hospital ambulatory (center) and had some departments working in two separate buildings.”

The new facility is able to support future services and it helps ensure positive and well-planned growth continues within the county, he said.

The county will house specialized services in permitting, developmental regulations, subdivision plats, geographic reference maps, 911 addressing, and managing enforcement of public violations according to federal, state and local regulations.
