A long time state representative is asking for another turn in office.

John Kuempel recently announced he is seeking re-election to continue serving as the Texas House District 44 Representative, which covers Guadalupe and Gonzales counties. Kuempel has held the post since winning a special election in December 2010, a month after his father, Edmund Kuempel’s death.

The 12-year-veteran touts some of his successes in this recent session of the Texas Legislature including the state’s biggest property tax cut and a “record-setting board security investment.”

“We’ve just cut property and business taxes by $18 billion. That’s good progress, but there’s more to do to eliminate this heavy burden on families,” John said. “We’re also in the fight of our lives at the border. We’re finishing the wall and we created a new border protection unit to arrest illegal immigrants. We also designated Mexican drug cartels as the foreign terrorists they are and passed laws to prosecute fentanyl deaths as murder. But we’ve got to do more… I’m running again to finish the job.”

Edmund Kuempel died just days after winning a re-election and then-Governor Rick Perry called for a special election to fill his seat, which John won in December and was sworn into office in January 2011.

John has won the GOP nomination in each March primary since and was re-elected that following November, which he contributes to his tenacity to push the state toward more “conservative values.”

“(My) strong conservative values and years of tireless work culminated in the passage of Texas’ abortion ban, Constitutional Carry, the end of sanctuary cities, and now, the complete shutout of the radical ‘woke’ agenda to sexualize children – banning drag shows in front of kids, pornography in school libraries, and biological boys from competing in girls’ sports.” he said.

As the High Education Committee Chairman, John helped build talent pipelines for college graduates to enter the workforce with the skills needed, as well as helped Texas State Technical College establish a campus in the Guadalupe and Comal county area, he said.

John was named Best Elected Official in the 2023 Seguin Gazette Best of the Best Awards. He is married to Michelle, and they have two sons, Will and Sam.
