(Seguin) — After just 90 days, the Seguin Walmart store on Friday was able to celebrate its second-best day ever. Its original best day was back in June of 1995, when the store opened the doors to its current location. Now, 27 years later, Walmart is celebrating a re-grand opening brining the store up to par with all its other newer locations.

Thanking her staff for the hard work in getting the store reopened was Store Manager Marcella Deluna. Deluna says her associates for the large part spent most of their time at the store than they did with their own families at home.

Nonetheless, she is grateful to finally unveil to local customers the store that they deserve especially now that they can provide those services to those customers who might have difficulty coming into the store to do their shopping.

“We were able to serve our community. Unfortunately, during COVID time, we weren’t able to get to our customers or they weren’t able to get to us. So now we are extending our online grocery shopping and delivery where we can get to customers who can’t make it to the store. We have more offerings online for people who can’t come into the store. We have an innovation and technology that we could do digital or money less — stuff like that so these upgrades are not only going to make customers’ lives easier, but it helps Walmart can provide great customer service,” said Deluna.

There was no holding back on the celebration during Fridays’ re grand opening. The store welcomed several special guests plus performances by the Seguin High School Band, Seguin High School Cheerleaders and Mariachi Clasico of Austin. Several VIPs were also on hand for the celebration including members of the Seguin Police Department, Seguin Fire/EMS Department and the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, city of Seguin and the Seguin ISD.

Representing the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce with a special ribbon cutting of the newly redesigned store was Chamber President Chester Jenke. Jenke says the overall renovation of the store is yet another sign that the city is heading in the right direction.

“It’s just awesome that they invested so much money — $6 million inside of their store in Seguin to make it better for the Seguin residents and that’s what the chamber is all about is making sure that our residents have quality shopping and quality places to go,” said Jenke.

Deluna says she apologizes for any inconvenience that the store might have caused its customers during the last 90 days but says in the end, Walmart is here to provide the best service possible.

“I want our customers to know that we are here for them. We hopefully give them an amazing experience every time they are in the store. I want them to know that they can reach out to me anytime,” said Deluna.

The store spent most of the weekend celebrating offering free food, drinks and providing great prizes to those who stopped by.
