Annual Badges, Bikes & Tykes set for this Saturday
(Seguin) — Local kids are invited to come out and play this weekend. Game booths, prizes, and a bicycle raffle are among the featured events for this year’s Badges, Bikes & Tykes event. The event hosted by the Seguin Police Department and Seguin Fire Department will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Max Starcke Park.

Looking forward to the event is Sarah Wallace, the community engagement officer with the Seguin Police Department. Wallace says the best part of it all is that everything is completely free.

“It’s a completely free event. We supply the children with hot dogs and a drink and chips and all of that fun stuff while we are there and we have a ton of free games for them. All the booths at the event will also have free games set up and Seguin Animal Services will have some adoptable puppies for anyone who is interested,” said Wallace.

Close to 100 bikes will also be raffled off that day. Wallace says being able to host the raffle and allow local kids to see emergency responders in a different light is what the event is all about.

“It’s just a great way for the police department and the fire department to interact with the children in the community and of course, the community members itself. We invite a lot of local businesses as well as local organizations such as the Guadalupe County Children’s Advocacy Center, the Guadalupe Valley Family Violence Shelter just to name a very very few. We invite them all out there and just a real great event to bring the community together and of course, super fun to be able to give like that to the children as well. Our PD and I know the fire department as well love hosting this event. We love being able to play a lot of the games with kids that we have there and it’s just a real cool event especially when you see one of the kiddos winning a bicycle and how excited they get. It’s super cool,” said Wallace.

Each child in attendance will receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to take home a bike. More importantly, she says you must be present to win.

“You will get a raffle ticket and just like any raffle, you have to pay attention to when your number is called. If you miss it when your number is called, then sadly that ticket is no good. It goes up to the age of 16 and we of course keep it by sizes that way a little one isn’t winning a bike for a big kid,” said Wallace.

All activities will be held under the large pavilion located on the east side of Max Starcke Park.
