For years, Dr. Ronnie Garcia and his staff managed to treat heart patients in a small four-exam-room building in downtown Seguin.

Now, the cardiologist has expanded his operations and reopened his practice — Baptist Medical Network - Cardiology - Seguin (formerly Mission Cardiovascular Consultants) — in a new, larger location.

On Jan. 12, Garcia held an open house for his patients to welcome them to the new facility at 1012 Schriewer St. — the building that previously housed The Seguin Gazette.

“This is huge for us, we’ve been here going on 15 years,” Garcia said. “We were looking to expand, we saw this location and we thought this was sort of a diamond in the rough and it offered us opportunity to grow in the future. We have plenty of room. No one is on top of one another like we were before.”

While the outside of the building looks the same, Garcia completely remodeled the inside to help better fit the needs of his patients, said Victoria Nieto, office supervisor.

“We went from four rooms to 15 rooms,” she said. “We have testing rooms. We have a testing waiting area. We are doing our own labs.”

The new facility includes nuclear testing, ultrasounds, an echo and stress testing room, a wait room specifically for testing and a larger front waiting area that can accommodate more patients, as well as a larger parking lot.

Garcia’s practice started out in the back of a home with only himself and one employee. As the practice began to grow and help more patients, Garcia upgraded to an office one block from the courthouse. But over the next eight years, they outgrew that facility as well, Garcia said.

“Over the years with the support of the community, and the support of the hospital, we’ve just sort of grown with the community and gotten larger,” he said. “The last several years were in a small building. It was very cramped. Patients waiting area was small, parking was limited. We would hear it from the patients.”

The Seguin Gazette Enterprise designed and operated out of the building from 1987 to 2021. Garcia purchased the building in 2021 and completely remodeled it to fit the office’s needs.

“It took us about two years to get everything up and running,” Garcia said. “We got to where we needed it to be. Finally, I think we have something that is more fitting for the community here — a nice building, parking and great services. We were very excited.”
