Seguin ISD Board of Trustees is accepting applications for a vacant position on the board.

After announcing in January her upcoming retirement, Seguin ISD School Board member Cinde Thomas-Jimenez is soon taking her leave.

“In September, you’ll be getting a resignation letter from me,” she told the board during the Aug. 29 meeting.

The board invited residents who live in the area of the northeast portion of Seguin ISD’s boarders, including the McQueeney area, to submit letters of interest to pnramirez@seguin.k12.tx.us .

The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29.

Trustees will review the letters Oct. 10 and conduct interviews the following week, Seguin ISD Board President Alejandro Guerra said.

“Ideally, a new District 3 trustee will be appointed at the Oct. 24 regular school board meeting,” he said.

The appointee will serve the remainder of the term, which is set to expire in November 2024.

Jimenez-Thomas joined the board as the District 3 representative following the November 2016 election.

Jimenez-Thomas told the board in January she and her husband plan to move out of state, but that won’t happen until after she retires from her position at Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority sometime in July.

The district is hosting a farewell reception for Thomas-Jimenez and Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Seguin ISD Central Office.
