The City of Seguin Launches New Business Improvement Grant Program

SEGUIN, TX – The City of Seguin has launched a new Business Improvement Grant (BIG) Program, a reimbursement-based grant program aimed at the development and expansion of business enterprises within the City of Seguin. The Seguin City Council authorized the creation of the BIG Program on July 20, 2021, allocating $250,000 for the initial funding cycle.  Applicants may be eligible to receive up to a 75 percent matching grant, with a maximum grant awarded to an applicant not to exceed $10,000.  Improvements and other expenditures eligible under the Seguin BIG Program include building improvements, sign improvements, property improvements, and interior and/or business machinery/equipment improvements. 

“We are very excited to launch the Seguin BIG Program”, Said Steve Parker, City Manager for the City of Seguin. “The BIG Program enables our small businesses to partner with the City on projects that will help improve the physical condition of existing commercial facilities and improve business operations and efficiency through the addition of new equipment and machinery. These investments are a win for the City and a win for our local businesses.”

In addition to traditional building improvements, eligible projects for the initial funding cycle of the BIG Program will also include COVID-19 Pandemic related business improvements and expenditures. 

“Businesses across the City of Seguin were forced to make certain property improvements or purchase new machinery and equipment in order to adapt to the COVID-19 Pandemic”, Said Seguin Mayor Donna Dodgen. “In order to assist those businesses, a section was included within the BIG Program guidelines that specifically addresses COVID related improvements and expenditures. We encourage businesses to take advantage of the BIG Program to help offset those costs.” 

Applications for the Seguin BIG Program are now being accepted and can be accessed by visiting view.seguinedc.com/SeguinBIG. Applicants can submit their completed application via email to economicdevelopment@seguintexas.gov, via mail to the City of Seguin, 205 N. River Street, Seguin, Texas 78155, or applications can be physically dropped off at the City of Seguin’s Economic Development Department located at 211 N. River Street, Seguin, Texas 78155. Applicants are highly encouraged to review the Seguin BIG Program Guidelines before applying. Applications will be considered on a monthly basis and must be submitted by the 15th date of the month in order to be considered the following month.
