Seguin, the county seat of Guadalupe County, is located on Interstate Highway 10, thirty-five miles east of San Antonio, Texas. The city is named after Colonel Juan N. Seguin, a hero of the Texas Revolution who opposed the dictatorship of General Santa Anna of Mexico and helped lead the fight for an independent Texas.

Seguin’s original economy was centered on agriculture. With the influx of German immigrants to Central Texas in the mid-1800s, farming methods improved and trade increased. By the Civil War, Seguin residents were growing cotton, corn and peanuts and raising livestock.

Today, Seguin’s diversified economy is based on its strong skilled workforce, established industry, and strong academic base. Residents enjoy the convenience of being 30 minutes by car from San Antonio, 15 minutes from New Braunfels, 25 minutes from San Marcos and only 45 minutes from Austin, Texas – the State Capital. The Seguin community benefits from the day-to-day involvement of leaders in industry, education and healthcare.

On August 12, 1988, Seguin celebrated its 150th anniversary. The City has become a destination, attracting residents and tourists as well as large corporations such as Continental and Tyson Foods with its skilled labor, central location, low business cost, incentives and deep history.

Seguin presently has a population of over 25,000 and is experiencing rapid growth in both the industrial and retail sectors.
